KITIJA VASIĻJEVA is a creative producer, strategist and curator working in the field of contemporary arts with a strong interest in communities, knowledge exchange and mindful use of resources. Over the last ten years she has produced a variety of exhibitions, biennials, public programs, community projects and festivals.
Her projects include Latvian Pavilion at la Biennale di Venezia in 2015 and 2022 (Venice, Italy), exhibition Identity: Behind the Curtain of Uncertainty at the Ukrainian National Museum of Art in 2016 (Kyiv, Ukraine), installation ARMPIT at the Coachella music festival in 2016 (California, USA), Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art RIBOCA1 & RIBOCA2 exhibitions in 2018 and 2020 (Riga, Latvia), cross-disciplinary exhibition You've Got 1243 Unread Messages: Last Generation Before the Internet. Their Lives that was awarded Latvian Broadcast Award as a cultural event of Latvia in 2017. Her institutional work experience includes Latvian National Museum of Art, Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art and Riga International Biennial of Contemporary Art, among others. She is part of the creative collective running art space in the wild SAVVAĻA.
Since 2020 she is a guest lecturer at the Latvian Academy of Arts teaching exhibition production. She also regularly consults on the production, strategy and development for projects in the arts and culture field and gives public lectures and talks. She graduated from Maastricht University with a research master MSc in Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology in 2013. She holds two bachelors - in the Business Studies and Liberal Arts and Sciences from Tilburg University (Tilburg, the Netherlands, 2010, 2011) and a minor in American Studies from Free University of Berlin (Berlin, Germany, 2011).
She is open to collaborations on strategic development of cultural and social initiatives, creative and content development for cultural events and programs, as well as their technical production. She is also interested in exchanging skills and experience in a teaching capacity. She works cross-disciplinary, empathetically and collaboratively. Kitija believes in common aims, shared values and honest dialogues as key ingredients of a meaningful and engaging project.
